Jules Pascin (1885–1930), Central Park, New York, ca. 1918
Pastel and graphite on paper, laid on board. Promised gift of Elie and Sarah Hirschfeld, Scenes of New York City
This idyllic summer landscape shows a couple riding horseback in Central Park. The bridle path
opened in 1863, and park rules allowed for riding “with a free hand and a rapid rate of speed.”
