NEW YORK HARBOR, 1915

About the Artwork

Edmund W. Greacen (1877–1949), New York Harbor, 1915
Oil on board. Promised gift of Elie and Sarah Hirschfeld, Scenes of New York City

Both of these structures welcomed visitors to New York. Pier A in Battery Park served as an official greeting place for distinguished visitors arriving by sea. The last surviving historic pier in the city, it points across the Hudson River toward the Statue of Liberty emerging through the haze.
