Graphite on beige paper. Promised gift of Elie and Sarah Hirschfeld, Scenes of New York City. © 2021 Estate of Stuart Davis / Licensed by VAGA at Artists Rights Society (ARS), NY.
Davis sketched this scene from a rooftop. The view sweeps across a range of New York City architecture, from the just-completed Chrysler Building at left, to the industrial ventilation shafts at center, and the older building with a cornice and fire escape to the right.
