Colin Campbell Cooper (1856–1937), New York City Harbor on the Hudson River, ca. 1910
Colored chalks and pastel on brown paper
Promised gift of Elie and Sarah Hirschfeld, Scenes of New York City
This dreamy pastel highlights the city harbor, where commercial vessels chug past a scrim of
skyscrapers. Tallest among them is the Singer Building. Once the highest building in the world,
it was demolished in 1968.
